The WBA Lightweight Champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis will defend Lamont Roach on August 16 in Las Vegas. This is a struggle that is supposed to clarify the controversy of her former struggle on March 1, which ended with a majority with 12 rounds with the scores 114-114, 115-113 for tank and 114-114.
Mike Coppinger Report That his “sources” say that Panzer’s reservations against Roach will take place in Las Vegas on August 16. Let’s hope that he is right.
In this fight, Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOS) met the tank (30-0-1, 28 Kos) with a push, making it a knee. Instead of referee Steve Willis, who ruled it as a knockdown, he let up tank and go into his corner to clean his eyes from his coach.
Roach: The uncrowned king?
Tank asked for no break. He just went to his corner, like the boss, and was visited by his trainer. Later Davis said he had to have Hair cleared by his eyes. If the referee Willis had made the right judgment by rating him as a knockdown, Roach would have won. Obviously, Willis will not be the referee for the reserves, and the excuse of the hair set will probably not be permitted for tank if he tries this strategy again as an excuse.
Interestingly, the New York Commission did not storm the results of the first fight by giving a competition or Roach the victory. There were many box fans who had hoped that they would do this because of the controversy of the ninth round. You believed that the incident of the ninth round was not a result determinative factor in the fight.
Roach will be happy that he will get a second chance of fighting tank because the money will be good. Even if he loses, he will still get the second big payday against the King of the lightweight department.
Mentally prepared, tank?
Davis has to fight a lot better than he showed last time that he won because he was last set his head by Roach. Tank didn’t look like he had his mind in the fight. He looked distracted and not mentally engaged.
