Shakur Stevenson says that on July 12th he will come to Turki Alalshikh’s event in Queens, New York, in his WBC Lightweight -Gurt defense against William Zepeda to bring the belt to a ***. Stevenson (23-0, 11 Kos) looked unimpressed when he mentioned that some people see this as the “hardest struggle” of his career. He doesn’t seem to feel that way, but the fans could be right. Shakur fought at times in his last defense against the electrician Josh Padley, whom his promoter Eddie Hearn had chosen for.
Glass hands, real danger?
Stevensons’ glass hands endanger him to lose against Zepeda, as this is not the fighter that he can beat by throwing light blows or fighting with one hand. He will work both hands and he has to sit on his shots.
On July 12, Shakur will meet against Zepeda (33: 0, 27 Kos) in the co-feature of the map of Edgar Berlanga against Hamzah Sheeraz in the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York.
“On paper, this should be the most difficult fight of my career. So let’s see what happens on July 12th,” said Shakur Stevenson Ring magazineabout his title defense against William Zepeda in Queens, New York. “I’m so scared. I don’t think I’m so scared in my life. You have a man who is tall, strong and physical. He comes in there to impose his will. I’m very afraid of this fight, yes.”
Whether he wants to admit it or not, Zepeda is the most difficult fight for Shakurs career. He is younger, stronger, throws more blows and he is more aggressive than the limited boys with whom he is confronted. So far, Stevenson’s best opponents have been limited to these fighters:
– Jamel Herring – 35 and past it
– Oscar Valdez – washed
– Edwin de los Santos – inexperienced
– Joet Gonzalez
– Jeremiah Nakathilia
That’s it. These are the best types that Stevenson fought during his eight -year -old professional career, and these boys are by no means the level that Zepeda is fighting. None of these fighters could compete with him.
Shakur: “Zepeda stops me?”
“William Zepeda said he stops me in the 10th round. Let’s see,” said Shakur. “I come in there to bring the belt to a ** and beat it up. July 12th will be a better show [than the May 2nd event]. You brought me to this card and I feel better than every fighter on this card. “
If Stevenson means that on the map on July 12th he is better than any other than any other, he is wrong. He would not be on the sub -card if it were better than all fighters. With regard to the event of May 2, Shakur is no better than Teofimo Lopez. With regard to the talent, he is on Devin Haney’s level. He lacks Ryan Garcia and Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romeros and aggressiveness. Shakurs skills are good, but he doesn’t have the strength or strong hands to make him a complete fighter. His hands are made of glass.
“I have the feeling that my fight is a harder and better fight [than the main event clash between Edgar Berlanga and Hamzah Sheeraz]”, Said Shakur.” My fight is also a title fight. So it somehow makes sense. We are in New York. It is his hometown, so it should be a funny event. “
Stevenson’s struggle with Zepeda could be tougher than the main event, but not because of him. Zepeda is the one who makes it difficult with his high blow, strength and toughness. Shakur drives a trip.
Who really ducked?
“So you will admit that he is ducking me,” said Shakur about Zepeda. “I think he would be a difficult task for everyone in the division. He throws a billion blows into a round. He comes in to force his will. One thing is one thing we know what he comes in. There are different things in my game in which you don’t know what I will do,” said Shakur.
Zepeda tried to fight Shakur on May 3, but he felt that it was too early. So who is ducking? Instead of complaining, he should be happy that he is now fighting against him because he has the chance to show the fans that he is better than him. There are many people who believe Zepeda will win this fight and make Shakur look bad by going to flee all night, as de los Santos did.
